IPL 2021: Umran Malik joins SRH squad as a short-term replacement for T Natarajan

SRH has signed medium-pacer Umran Malik as a short-term replacement for T Natarajan for the second leg of the IPL 2021.

Earlier on Wednesday, T Natarajan had tested positive for COVID-19 before SRH’s opening clash against Delhi capitals. T Natarajan along with six of his close contacts was isolated from the rest of the SRH squad. The rest of the SRH players were retested for COVID-19 & had returned with negative results thus the DC vs SRH opening fixture was held as scheduled.

Umran Malik is a 22-year-old right-arm medium pacer from Jammu & Kashmir who has played one T20 and one List A game so far and has claimed a total of four wickets. Umran Malik is a part of the SRH squad as a net bowler.

IPL announced the news of Umran Malik joining the SRH squad through an Official Press Release, “Under the Regulation 6.1 (c), franchisees are allowed to sign a short-term replacement player until the original squad member is permitted to re-enter the team’s bio-secure environment. Hence, Malik will only be a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad side until Natarajan recovers and is allowed to join the team.”

T Natarajan has palyed only two matches for SRH in the first half of the IPL 2021 in which he claimed two wickets. However, he couldn’t play in the rest of the fixtures as he was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury & also underwent surgery for the same.

Sherfane Rutherford has returned home due to the sudden demise of his father

On Thursday SRH announced that its fast bowler Sherfane Rutherford has left the SRH bio-bubble to be with his family as his father passed away.

The SRH franchise has signed Sherfane Rutherford as the replacement of England’s opener Jonny Bairstow as the latter pulled out of the second leg of the IPL 2021. SRH signed Rutherford on the back of his blistering performances with the bat for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the recently-concluded CPL 2021. However, he leaves without having played a single game for SRH.

In a statement on their social media handles, the Sunrisers Hyderabad said, “The SRH family conveys its heartfelt condolences to Sherfane Rutherford and his family on the passing away of his father. Sherfane will be leaving the IPL bio-bubble to be with his family in this difficult hour.”

Rutherford was one of the key players of St Kitts & Nevis Patriots franchise, that won the CPL 2021 trophy. Sherfane Rutherford weaved magic with his bat by hitting three half-centuries and scored 262 runs at a strike rate of 127.18.

Coming back to IPL 2021, SRH’s poor performance in the IPL 2021 continues. In SRH’s opening clash against DC, they suffered a disheartening eight wickets defeat over DC. Batting first in the match in Dubai, SRH were restricted to 134 for 9. DC then chased down the target in 17.5 overs. By bagging just one win in eight matches, SRH’s hopes for qualifying for the Playoffs are almost over.
