Delhi Capitals suffered a major blow on Wednesday as its star pacer Anrich Nortje has tested positive for COVID-19! Speaking to ANI, sources close to Delhi Capitals has said that the pacer has tested positive for COVID-19 while serving his quarantine period. “He came in with a negative report but has tested positive for COVID-19 now while undergoing quarantine”, the source said to ANI.
Anrich Nortje last played in the ODI series against Pakistan. The pacer was a part of the first two ODIs against Pakistan. But he missed the third ODI as he departed for India to participate in the IPL 2021. After landing in Mumbai, Nortje was undergoing seven days of mandatory quarantine. Players contracting with the deadly virus has become a major concern for Delhi Capitals. Just before the start of the IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals received a major blow. As DC’s spinner Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19.
Also DC’s regular captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the entire IPL 2021 due to suffering a shoulder injury. Thus Rishabh Pant was handed the captaincy of DC in Shreyas Iyer’s absence. Delhi Capitals started their IPL campaign against CSK. In the first match against CSK, Delhi Capitals defeated CSK by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
Delhi Capitals had chased the target of 188 runs comfortably as Prithvi Shaw & Shikhar Dhawan stitched a spectacular opening partnership against CSK. Delhi Capitals will next face Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, 15th April.
