The BCCI has suspended the IPL 2021 for now after several players & support staff has tested positive for COVID-19.
The BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed the news to ANI, “IPL 2021 has been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not canceled. It is just suspended for now”, he said.
The decision of suspending the IPL 2021 was taken after Amit Mishra & Wriddhiman Saha have tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. Sources within the SRH squad confirmed the news that Saha was the lone person in the SRH squad who have tested positive for COVID-19. And as a result, the entire team has been kept in isolation.
“Yes, Wriddhiman Saha has tested positive for COVID-19. Our entire SRH team is now under isolation & there are no other positive reports, rest are all negative”, the members of the team management said.
Earlier on Monday the KKR vs RCB match was postponed after two players of the KKR squad, Varun Chakravarthy & Sandeep Warrier has tested positive for COVID-19. The players were immediately isolated from the rest of the team.
Two members of the CSK contingent, bowling coach L Balaji & a bus cleaner had also tested positive for COVID-19. The second report of the rest of the CSK squad came negative. However, Balaji and the team driver continued to be positive. The match between CSK & RR was also set to be postponed as the entire CSK unit was in isolation.
Due to the rising scare of COVID-19, many Australian players such as Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson & AJ Tye went back to Australia. RR’s batsman Liam Livingstone also returned back to England due to “bubble fatigue”. Whereas Delhi’s spin spearhead R Ashwin reduced his IPL season on April 25 to be with family.
