RCB suffers a major blow ahead of the IPL 2021. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star player Daniel Sams has tested positive for COVID-19. The RCB franchise confirmed the news in a tweet on Wednesday.
The Australian star batsman arrived in Chennai with a Negative COVID-19 report. But in the second test on April 7, Sams tested positive for COVID-19. The shocking news came just two days before RCB’s first match of the IPL 2021 against Mumbai Indians.
“Daniel Sams checked into the team hotel in Chennai on April 3rd, with a negative COVID report on arrival. His report from the 2nd test on 7th April came positive. Sams is currently asymptomatic and he is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility,” RCB tweeted.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols,” the franchise added.
Daniel Sams was a part of the Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2020 but he was traded to RCB in the IPL 2021 Player’s Auction. Daniel Sams got less chance to showcase his skills in the IPL 2020 as he could play just three games for DC.
A wave of shock ran through the RCB team as Sams is the second player to test positive for COVID-19 within the RCB squad. On Sunday the franchise revealed that its star opener Devdutt Padikkal has also tested positive for COVID-19 on March 22. Padikkal is in Quarantine since the news was announced by the franchise.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will start its campaign against Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener match in Chennai on April 9.
