Jofra Archer will miss the ODI series against England & the initial phase of IPL 2021 due to an elbow injury. England Head Coach Chris Silverwood on Sunday said that Jofra Archer will leave for the UK in order to start his rehabilitation & get himself fit.
Jofra Archer was termed as ‘unfit for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India & thus he has also been ruled out from the starting phase of the IPL 2021. “It was a joint decision & he put the National team as his first priority. He needs to recover & he needs some time to do that. It is about we give him bets chance to be successful for England’s team & all of us from the management has agreed on that front. Jofra was also very eager on that point as well. He wants to be there for the T20 World Cup & the Ashes tournament, & it was not a difficult decision rather it was a sensible decision”, Chris Silverwood told UK Media in a Virtual Press Conference on Sunday.
“Archer’s decision is good as it clearly indicates how passionate Archer is for playing for the national team & how much he enjoys playing for England. We respect his spirit & we enjoy having him around, whatever we can do to help, we will,” he added.
Jofra Archer will be returning to the UK for further investigation of his right elbow injury. Jofra Archer’s elbow issue has worsened during the five-match T20I series & made it challenging for him to maintain performance levels. The ECB Medical team will now assess the player & together with Archer, develop a concrete treatment plan & a return to play schedule in due course of time. As a consequence of the treatment plan, Jofra will miss the ODI series & the start of the IPL 2021.
