ECB on Friday confirmed that their star pacer Jofra Archer will miss the entire IPL 2021 season. Archer plays for Rajasthan Royals & was expected to miss the first half of the IPL due to his finger injury.
“ECB has confirmed that England & Sussex bowler Jofra Archer will not play in the rest of the IPL 2021”, ECB said in an official statement. Jofra Archer will return to training with Sussex from next week onwards.
Archer returned to bowling this week with higher intensity & the ECB & Sussex medical teams will continue to monitor his progress. Archer will now step up his training regime starting next week & will be in full training with Sussex. It is expected that he will return back to cricket in the next fortnight if he can continue to bowl pain-free”, the statement added.

Earlier the pacer was given a green signal by his consultant to resume training. As his right hand continued to heal after undergoing an operation on March 29. “It is hoped that he will be able to increase his intensity with his bowling from next week. A further update on his elbow injury will be provided once he will return to bowling to assess the effectiveness of his recent injection”, ECB had said in an Official Statement.
No decision has been made yet on when Archer will return to play”, it had added. Archer had suffered a cut on his hand while cleaning at his home just before flying to India to participate in England’s Test series against India.
The ECB’s medical team managed his injury throughout the tour & it did not impact his performance & availability. A small piece of glass was removed from his finger during the operation of his middle finger in March.
In India tour of England, Archer had played two tests & all the five T20Is against India. However, he was ruled out of the remaining ODI series & half of the IPL tournament. Archer’s IPL team RR suffered a major blow as their all-rounder Ben Stokes was also ruled out of the IPL 2021 due to a finger injury. He has left the bio-bubble to go back to the UK to undergo surgery on his injured finger. Ben Stokes has been sidelined for three months due to a finger injury, the ECB has confirmed.
