On Saturday ECB issued a Statement & confirmed that the fast bowler Jofra Archer will undergo scans & subsequent consultant review as he reached the UK on Tuesday.
Jofra Archer had an injection for the right elbow injury that had declared him unfit for the ongoing ODI series & first half of the IPL 2021. The treatment on Jofra’s hand will start on Monday so that he can recover during the planned break after his elbow injection.
“Jofra suffered from a cut to his hand while cleaning his home in January just before touring to India to prepare for the Test Series. The injury was taken care of by the ECB’s medical team throughout the tour & did not affect his availability”, ECB said in an Official Statement.
“Further investigation & an Expert opinion was sought on his return to the UK & in conjunction with the ECB Medical Panel, it has been declared that surgery is recommended to manage his injury in the long term”, he added.
Speaking before the start of the ODI series, regular captain Eoin Morgan had made it clear that the decision regarding Archer’s injury & healing process would be taken by the pacer himself in consultation with the medical team.
“To be honest I cannot give a medical opinion. We know the situation with his elbow, it has got worsen. We know it needs investigation, only time will tell. He has given his heart & soul to the team & since he has been so involved so we will give him full attention in order to try & bring the best result possible”, said Morgan.
“It all depends on the investigation that the medical team will do. They will determine the best rehabilitation programme & we will go with them, we fully trust our medical team, they have more knowledge about player welfare & player rehabilitation. The trust is always there”, Morgan signed off.
