The KKR have named USA fast bowler Ali khan as Harry Gurney’s replacement for the IPL 2020. Gurney was set to undergo a surgery related to his shoulder injury & that was the reason he pulled out of the IPL & T20 blast last month. However this signing has made it clear that Ali khan will be the first player from the USA to feature in the IPL.
Ali Khan has showed a brilliant performance in the recently ended CPL by playing for the Trinbago Knight Riders team which has also won this year’s CPL. KKR is TKR’s parent company & TKR is a CPL franchise. A decent show in the CPL tournament has helped Ali in his IPL signing. The pace bowler took eight wickets in as many matches conceding runs at a fairly decent economy of 7.43.
Ali Khan was seen in Dwayne Bravo’s Instagram story from inside the plane with caption, ‘next stop Dubai’. The reports have confirmed that the USA cricketer will play for the KKR franchise this season & let’s see whether he will get a chance to show his talent on field or will have to just sit on the bench for major part of the IPL.
As far as Ali Khan’s T20 cricket performance is concerned, he has been featured in 36 matches & has grabbed 38 wickets at a strike-rate of 18.8. As per the reports, Ali Khan might not be the first choice of overseas player in the KKR squad this season & might have to warm the benches for major part of the IPL. Apart from him, Eoin Morgan, Tom Banton, Pat Cummins, Andre Russell, Chris Green, Sunil Narine and Lockie Ferguson are the other players from the overseas contingent included in the squad. It will be a tough job for the KKR management to pick four players in the XI.
It is predicted that in the start of the tournament Morgan, Narine, Russell and Cummins will be preferred and as IPL progresses, they might be rotated based on the conditions & performances.
