Kyle Jamieson, Ajaz Patel, and Devon Conway have made their position in the 20 strong New Zealand Contracted Squad.
South African Devon Conway, has been included in New Zealand’s centrally contracted players list before completing the criteria of three years residency in New Zealand because his performance was “impossible to ignore”, Chief Selector Gavin Larsen said on Friday. The 28-year-old is one of the finest batsmen who does not become eligible for selection till August, is among one of the three new players who has been named in the 20 strong Black Caps contracted Squad.
All-round Kyle Jamieson who performed extremely well on the International front during the recent India series & spinner Ajaz Patel has also been promoted to the elite group of New Zealand’s centrally contracted squad while Munro & Jeet Raval have been dropped from the squad and Todd Astle confirmed his retirement in January.
Devon Conway is the emerging star batsman of New Zealand, he has topped the domestic batting charts across all the three formats since his debut in 2017 and his eligibility when International Cricket resumes has left no place for Test opener Raval & limited over batsman Munro.
“Devon’s current form in batting across all the three formats in the past two seasons has made him almost impossible to ignore & he is going to be a great option to add to the batting mix”, Larsen said.
Highlighting Kyle’s performance, “Kyle’s performances against team India was outstanding & at 25 years of age he has certainly got a bright future”, said Larsen
“We see Ajaz as a mandatory test spinner at present & he will definitely stamp his mark on that desirable spot after some superb efforts with the ball in the sub-continent added Larsen.
