New Zealand’s batsman Martin Guptill on Thursday broke India’s Opener batsman Rohit Sharma’s record of hitting most sixes in the T20Is when he smashed eight sixes in the second T20I against Australia.
Martin Guptill smashed spectacular 97 runs off 50 balls to guide New Zealand to 219 runs in 20 overs against Australia in the second T20I. Guptill hit eight sixes & six fours during his stupendous knock to surpass Rohit Sharma’s record of most sixes in T20Is. Guptill now has scored 132 sixes while Rohit has 127 sixes registered under his name in T20I cricket.
England’s Captain Eoin Morgan with 113 sixes, New Zealand’s batsman Colin Munro with 107 sixes & West Indies Stalwart Chris Gayle with 105 sixes are the other three batsmen to have hit more than 100 sixes in T20Is.
In reply to New Zealand’s 219 runs, Australia had a good start as they hit 33 runs from the first three overs. But soon Tim Southee dismissed Matthew Wade in the fourth over to put a full stop on Australia’s chase. But Australia continued to bat fiercely & after seven overs Australia were 64 runs for 1 wicket before Ish Sodhi dismissed Captain Aaron Finch on the last ball of eight over.
Aaron Finch’s dismissal resulted in the middle order collapse which saw Australia losing wickets at regular intervals. Australia were soon found struggling at 113/6 before Marcus Stoinis & Daniel Sams came out & stitched a strong partnership of 92 runs for the seventh wicket down in just 37 balls but New Zealand finally held their nerve in the final over to win the second T20I.
