The entire Indian Women’s team along with the ODI Captain Mithali Raj welcomed the historic decision of BCCI that the Women’s IPL will happen during the playoff week of Men’s IPL in the UAE.
Indian Women’s team is not been in action since the T20 World Cup final which was held in March whereas the ODI specialist Mithali Raj has last played in the month of November. The announcement of Women’s T20 league gives some relief to the Indian Women’s team as the upcoming T20 League will act as practice sessions before the ODI World Cup scheduled in February-March 2021.
“This is excellent news. Our ODI World Cup campaign to finally kick start. A big thank you to @SGanguly99 @BCCI @JayShah and thank you @BoriaMajumdar for your support to women’s cricket,” Mithali tweeted.
Whereas Indian Women’s team spinner Poonam Yadav wrote, “Good news! Thank you @SGanguly99 and the BCCI.”
Earlier the BCCI has received criticisms for cancelling the Women’s tour of England which was scheduled to commence on upcoming IPL’s season time frame in order to focus on the preparations of the upcoming IPL season.
The Men’s IPL 2020 is all set to kick start from September 19th & finals on 8th or 10th of November in the UAE as it’s impossible to host this IPL season in India due to increasing coronavirus cases. The four team Women’s IPL will perfectly fit the schedule according to the BCCI Chief.
“I can confirm to you that the women’s IPL is very much on and we do have a plan in place for the national team also,” Ganguly told the media ahead of the IPL Governing Council meeting on Sunday.
