Making the most of the ongoing lockdown, the Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan & star bowler Mohammed Shami started an interesting Instagram live chat where both the star cricketers discussed a range of topics.
During the live Instagram chat India pacer bowler Mohammed Shami revealed that he played the 2015 World Cup which was hosted by Australia and New Zealand with a fractured knee. Mohammed Shami had an impressive session in the tournament as he was the second-highest wicket-taker for India behind Umesh Yadav. In seven matches he took impressive 17 wickets at an average of 17.29 with best figures of 4-35 while Umesh Yadav picked 18 wickets in just eight games including two matches in which he grabbed 4 wickets.

Talking about his World Cup experience, the 29-year-old fast bowler Mohammed Shami said he used to take three painkillers and injections to reduce the severe pain of his knee during the World Cup matches.
“Sometimes there are some important, matches lined up where you have to play despite your injury. In the 2015 World Cup, I had a severe knee injury. Because of that, I wasn’t able to walk properly, I use to take painkillers and injections. The physiotherapist Nitin Patel helped me a lot, he gave me the confidence to complete the tournament. My knee needed an operation they told me that if I can bear the pain then I can play the World Cup”, recalled Mohammed Shami.
My knee broke in the first match of the World Cup, my thighs and knees became of the same size, doctors had to take out fluids every day from my knee, I used to take three painkillers. That phase was very painful for me”, Mohammed Shami added.
The Indian pacer said that the former Captain MS. Dhoni has kept faith and confidence in him and motivated him during this tough phase of his career.
India faced a heartbreaking defeat from the Champions Australia in the Semi-final match of the World Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Chasing a whopping 329 runs India got out at 223 runs as the Australian bowler James Faulker claimed three wickets while Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson bagged two wickets each. Steve Smith’s 105 runs helped Australia to score 328-7 in just 50 overs.
“Before the semi-final match against Australia, my knee pain got unbearable eventually. I told the team that I cannot bear this pain anymore. But it was Mahi bhai and the management who showed faith in me and they really kept confidence in my capabilities. I played the match and gave just 13 runs in my opening over. Then I went off the pitch and told Mahi bhai that I can’t take this immense pain anymore and can bowl further. But MS. Dhoni told me that he cannot go to part-time bowlers and asked them to not give them more than 60 runs. I have never been in such miserable condition like that, some even predicted that my career is over, but I am still here”, Mohammed Shami said.
Mohammed Shami was featured in the two-match test series against New Zealand, part of the ICC World Test Championship which India lost drastically by 0-2. He bagged five wickets in that series.
Mohammed Shami, is one of the best bowlers of the Indian cricket team which is clearly reflected by his performance.
