RCB bowler Mohammed Siraj holds the nerve of the Delhi Capitals by successfully defending 14 runs in the final over to hand RCB an exhilarating one-run win over DC in the Match 23 of the IPL 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Shimron Hetmyer’s late cameo of 53 runs & Rishabh Pant’s spectacular knock of 58 runs went in vain as Delhi Capitals failed to chase 14 runs in the death overs & thereby lost the match by just one run in the end. With this glorious win, RCB grabs the top spot in the IPL 2021 Points Table with 10 points scored from 6 matches.
Hetmyer-Pant’s 111 runs stand is the highlight of DC’s run chase!
Chasing a total of 172, Delhi Capitals got off to a poor start as they were reduced to 28/2 right in the fourth over. Delhi’s star opener Shikhar Dhawan was cheaply dismissed by Jamieson for 6 runs. While Steve Smith again failed to deliver with the bat by falling prey to Mohammed Siraj’s bowling & departed for just 4 runs. Then came Captain Rishabh Pant on the crease who tried to steady DC’s innings by stitching a quick-fire 45 runs stand with Marcus Stoinis. However soon their flourishing partnership was ended by Harshal Patel who dismissed Stoinis for 22 runs by reducing DC to 92/4.
But soon Delhi’s submerging innings got the sheer support of Shimron Hetmyer who along with Rishabh Pant stitched a strong 111 runs stand. Shimron hit 53 runs off 25 balls while Rishabh Pant scored 58 runs to keep DC alive in the chase. The duo took reduced DC’s run chase to 46 runs in the final three overs. Hetmyer further reduces the burden of their side by smashing 21 runs in the 18th over. However, DC’s rising hopes were put to an end by Mohammed Siraj who defended 14 runs in the final over to guide RCB to a nervy one-run win.
AB de Villiers Magnificent 75 runs knock took RCB to a decent target of 175 runs!
Earlier sent to bat first, AB De Villiers swashbuckling 75 runs off 42 balls in an innings studded with three fours & five sixes. AB De Villiers scintillating 75 runs knock helped RCB to post a powerful target of 175 runs. Glenn Maxwell & Rajat Patidar also contributed to RCB’s dominant total by playing crucial knocks of 31 & 25 respectively. But soon their flourishing partnership was ended by Amit Mishra who dismissed Glenn Maxwell in the 9th over for 25 runs reducing RCB to 60/3. RCB captain Virat Kohli & Devdutt Padikkal’s opening partnership couldn’t last long. As Virat was removed by Avesh Khan for just 12 runs while Devdutt Padikkal succumbed in front of Ishant Sharma’s pace attack who dismissed Padikkal for just 17 runs.
For Delhi Capitals, all the bowlers have scalped one wicket each except Marcus Stoinis. Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers for DC due to his economical spell of 6.00. For RCB Harshal Patel was the pick of bowlers who scalped 2 wickets for 37 while Kyle Jamieson & Mohammed Siraj scalped a single wicket each.
AB De Villiers was awarded the ‘Player of the Match Award’ for his scintillating 75 runs knock which helped RCB to post a superlative 172 runs target. He also contributed to their side’s win by taking three catches from behind the stumps.
