PSL 6: Noor Ahmed kept Karachi Kings playoffs hopes alive by defeating Lahore Qalandars with narrow seven runs margin to seal their fourth victory in PSL 6. Choosing to bat first, Babar Azam & Martin Guptill stitched a spectacular 88 runs partnership which laid the platform for Karachi King’s victory. Ahmed’s restricted bowling kept Qalandars batters at bay.
Karachi Kings lost Sharjeel very early during the innings but Babar & Guptill’s 88 runs stand brought Karachi Kings back on track. There was a stupendous transition as they moved from 109 for 1 to 132 for 5 by the end of the 16th over. Imad Wasim’s 30 off 19 & Danish Aziz’s 16 off 10 balls helped the Karachi Kings to bring up a target of 170 runs.
Qalandars were left reeling on the field due to a poor fielding stint as they dropped Babar three times during his half-century stint. Fakhar Zaman struck two maximums right in the first over but can’t keep going in the chase. He got bowled for 19 off 26 balls as the batsmen continued to struggle on the field. Mohammed Hafeez scored 36 runs off 36 balls but Ahmad’s twin strikes along with Agha Salman’s run-out left the side reeling at 92 for 5 in 14 overs. However, Tim David’s blistering 34 runs knock along with Faulkner’s 33 runs helped Lahore Qalandars to gain some momentum in the match.
However, Abbas Afridi ran through Lahore Qalandars’ batting order & removed David right in the 18th over. Qalandars were still 27 runs away from victory. Then Faulkner fell prey to Rashid Khan’s bowling in the final over while Shaheen Afridi failed to close the chase.
Brief scores: Karachi Kings 176/5 in 20 overs (Babar Azam 54; Rashid Khan 2-25) beat Lahore Qalandars 169/7 in 20 overs (Noor Ahmad 2-19) by seven runs.
