New Zealand displayed a swashbuckling performance in the third ODI against Bangladesh to seal a huge 164 runs win in the 3rd ODI match on Friday. With this glorious victory, New Zealand gives Bangladesh a clean sweep in the three-match ODI series.
Chasing a mammoth target of 319 runs, Bangladesh witnessed a poor start with Tamim Iqbal getting bowled right in the third over. He was caught on matt Henry’s Delivery. Henry progressed in the 3rd ODI by scalping his third wicket of the day by removing Liton Das for 21 runs in the seventh over. Mohammed Mithun & Mushfiqur Rahim also failed to stitch a strong partnership as Jamieson caught Mohammed Mithun right in the 18th over. Neesham then continued his good form by picking two wickets in the 24th over. Bangladesh was then relied on Rahim & Mehidy Hasan to steady their innings which were left struggling on 77/6. Neesham in his next over gave England a breakthrough by removing Mahedi Hasan & laid the platform of glorious victory for England.
However, Mahmudullah provided much resistance to New Zealand’s bowling attack by playing a stupendous knock of 76 runs against all the odds. Although Mahmudullah’s magnificent knock was not enough for Bangladesh to turn the game in their favour, it provided them relief to Bangladesh by reducing the margin of defeat.
For Hosts, Neesham was the pick of the bowlers by scalping five wickets while Matt Henry picked up four wickets & guided New Zealand towards a brilliant victory. Initially, New Zealand won the toss & opted to bat first. New Zealand witnessed a good start with batsmen Martin Guptill & Henry Nicholas scoring multiple boundaries. The budding partnership between the duos was soon broken by Taskin Ahmed in the eighth over when he dismissed Nicholas for 18 runs & then on the very next over Rubel removed Guptill on 26 runs.
The fall of wickets was not stopping for New Zealand as Rubel in the next over sent Ross Taylor back to the pavilion for just 7 runs. Tom Latham then came on the field to support Devon Conway on the field. The duo was successful to bring hosts innings back on track by taking the team over 100 runs mark. Latham scored 18 runs before Soumya Sarkar dismissed him. Daryl Mitchell then took the field & played outstandingly for England along with Conway. Both the batsmen scored their respective half-centuries to guide New Zealand towards a huge total. The duo was successful in taking New Zealand over the 250 runs mark with Conway completing his century. However, Conway couldn’t last long on the field & got dismissed by Mustafizur in the 48th over.
Mitchell completed his century & to add to the excitement was the reality that he completed his century off the last delivery of the innings. New Zealand got successful in putting up a decent target of 319 runs for Bangladesh. As a result, visitors couldn’t chase the mammoth target of 319 runs & lost the match with a massive 164 runs. By sealing triumph in the 3rd ODI New Zealand gave Bangladesh a complete sweep in the three-match ODI series.
