Pakistan Pacer Usman Shinwari announces retirement from Test Cricket

Pakistani spinner Usman Shinwari on Tuesday announced his retirement from the longest format of cricket. Usman’s took this surprising decision in order to ‘prolong his career span”.

Usman Shinwari has scalped 48 International wickets to his name & has represented Pakistan in one test & 33 first-class matches. He has also fractured in 17 ODIs & 16 T20Is for Pakistan. He played the one & only test match of his career against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi in December 2019.

In 2017, a medical scanning confirmed that Shinwari has been diagnosed with a stress fracture on the back which was a severe blow for his blooming career. He struggled with the same injury in the initial days of his career. He has sustained back injuries twice before & thus missed a major part of the 2014-2015 season as a result.

Usman Shinwari announced in his Official Twitter statement that he is bidding farewell to test cricket in order to prolong his span of playing cricket. Shinwari said that he has fully recovered from his back injury & is “absolutely fit” but he is bidding adieu to the longest format of the game.

“Thanks to @sportsphysiojav ALHAMDULILLAH I have made my comeback again from a back injury and now I am absolutely fit due to my Doctors and physio advice I have to leave Long format to avoid such injuries in future and prolong my Cricket career. I am Resigning from Red ball,” he tweeted.

While announcing his retirement from test cricket, Usman stated that he made this big decision on the advice of doctors & the physio. He also applauded physio Javed Mughal for helping in his recovery and initiating his comeback.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan T20I team has already reached Dhaka on Saturday for playing three-match T20I series against Bangladesh commencing from November 19. Bangladesh National Selectors has also named a 16 man squad for their home T20I series against Pakistan on Tuesday.
