Pakistan Pacer Sohail Tanvir also tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the Lanka Premier League. Tanvir is the second player who tests positive for coronavirus in the Lanka Premier League in the tournament after arriving in Sri Lanka.
The fast bowler is a part of Kandy Tuskers franchise. “Unfortunately @sohailmalik614, our own Kandy Tusker has tested positive for #COVID19. We hope he has a speedy recovery and is back in time for the @LPLT20_,” the franchise wrote on Twitter. Tanvir was all set to join the former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel & Kusal Perera, Sri Lankan T20 specialists Kusal Mendis and Nuwan Pradeep among others in the team. After testing positive for coronavirus Tanvir’s participation in the event seems to be doubtful.
Earlier Colombo King’s batsman Ravinderpal Singh also tested positive for COVID-19 & now his availability for the tournament depends on his recovery. The inaugural season of Lanka Premier League will start from next week despite of the star players such as Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga & other players have pulled out of the tournament. In the LPL, five franchise teams named after Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla, and Jaffna will compete in 23 matches.
Colombo will face Kandy Tuskers in the opening match of the LPL at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on November 26. There will be double headers match everyday till the semi-finals starting on December 13 & 14. The final will be played on December 16.
