Pakistan fast bowlers Mohammed Amir and Wahab Riaz have not been listed in Pakistan’s Centrally contracted list of players, while the young sensation of Pakistan 17 year old pacer Naseem Shah was handed a Central Contract for the first time.
Pakistan fast bowlers Mohammed Amir & Wahab Riaz have lost their central contract after the duo have decided to concentrate more on white-ball cricket, PCB Officials said on Wednesday. The PCB also confirmed Azhar Ali as Test Match Captain & Babar Azam as one day & 20-20 Captain for the upcoming season which will start from the coming July. Eighteen players in three categories have received central contracts which guarantees their monthly salaries & benefits for the next 12 months.
The exclusion of Amir & Riaz comes with the inclusion of young fast bowlers in the Central Contract list. 17-year-old pace sensation Naseem Shah has been included in the “C” category for the first time in the centrally contracted players list.
Naseem became the youngest test bowler in the history to take a five-wicket haul in an innings and hat-trick wickets in the consecutive test match against Sri Lanka in December 2019 & Bangladesh in February 2020 in Karachi & Rawalpindi.
Adding to the list of young cricketers in the central contract list is young pacer Shaheen Bagh who bumped into the “A” group after he featured in all the three formats for Pakistan Cricket in the past 12 months.
“The selectors have made tough decisions to exclude Amir & Wahab from the list considering Amir & Wahab decided to focus on white-ball cricket this was absolutely the right move”, The chief selector & head coach Misbah-Ul-Haq said.
The move from the PCB comes after Amir announced his retirement from test cricket at the age of 28 years and after that Riaz took an indefinite break from test match to focus entirely on 20-20 matches.
Former Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and leg-spinner Yasir Shah were demoted from “A” to “B” slot after giving below the average performances while injured fast bowler Hasan Ali also not made it to the central contract list.
Pakistan is scheduled to play nine test matches, six ODIs, and 20 T20Is besides the prestigious Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 whose commencement is a subject of doubt depending on the deadly COVID-19 outbreak.
The PCB has also created a new Emerging Players Category list & the first inductees in the list are Haider Ali & fast bowlers Haris Rauf & Mohammad Hasnain.
