Punjab kings went into the IPL player auction with the biggest purse among all franchises i.e. Rs 53.20 crores. They bought nine players to strengthen their squad ahead of the 14th edition of the IPL. While Punjab spent huge amount to buy Australian pace duo of Jhye Richardson & Riley Meredith which was one of the highlights of the IPL Auction. Another highlight of the auction was that Punjab Kings won the bid for the Tamil Nadu batsman Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh Khan impressed everyone with his big-hitting in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament, fetched Rs 5.25 crores deal from Punjab Kings.
After buying Shahrukh, Preity Zinta, Co-owner of Punjab Kings, teased Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan who was present at the IPL 2021 auction by screaming in excitement that “we got Shahrukh”. At the IPL 2021 player auction, Punjab spent huge money on two Australians who are yet to play in the T20 league. Richardson was bought for Rs 14 crores while his fellow Australian fast bowler Meredith got Rs 8 crores deal.
Punjab Kings also roped in the number one T20I batsman Dawid Malan for his base price of Rs 1.5 crores. Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques will also play for Punjab Kings in the Upcoming IPL edition of the franchise based tournament as he got Rs 4.2 crores deal. Punjab Kings also bought West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen & Indian uncapped players Jalaj Saxena, Saurabh Kumar and Utkarsh Singh.
