Shaw-Dhawan’s aggressive batting stint helped Delhi Capitals to win the match with Flying Colors!
Yeh hai, Nayi Dilli! Delhi Capitals has turned their mojo into a reality by clinching an outstanding seven wickets win over Kolkata Knight Riders. Prithvi Shaw & Dhawan played crucial knocks of 82 & 47 to guide DC towards a glorious win with 21 balls to spare. With this stunning victory, DC has moved up to the second spot in the IPL Points Table with 10 points registered to their name.
Chasing an average target of 155 runs, Delhi Capitals got off to a good start as Prithvi Shaw played a firing knock of 82 runs by smashing six consecutive boundaries in the very first over bowled by Shivam Mavi. Shaw also became the first Indian batsman in the IPL history to start an innings with six consecutive boundaries. Prithvi Shaw along with Dhawan thrashed KKR bowlers to hit cover drives & huge shots in all directions of the Stadium & Delhi’s score read 67/0 after the end of the sixth over. Dhawan & Shaw continued their onslaught with the bat & KKR bowlers couldn’t stop them. Shikhar Dhawan became the first batsman in the IPL 2021 to cross 300 runs. Dhawan is currently the orange cap holder with 311 runs registered on his name.
With just 23 runs required for the win, KKR got their first breakthrough as Pat Cummins dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for LBW on 46 runs ending the duo’s stunning 132 runs stand. Cummins also removed Shaw for 82 runs & Rishabh Pant for 16 runs in the 16th over. Shaw during his innings of 82 runs also became the fastest batsman to score a half-century off just 18 balls. However, it was too late as Delhi Capitals reached over the line to seal their easy win which took them to second place on the Points Table.
DC’s restrictive bowling approach limited KKR to an Average total of 154 runs in the allotted 20 overs!
For DC Axar Patel & Lalit Yadav scalped two wickets each as Delhi Capitals restricted KKR to a meager score of 154/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Sent to bat first, KKR didn’t get off to an ideal start as the team lost its opener, Nitish Rana, right in the fourth over. Tripathi & Shubman Gill took KKR’s score to 45/1 by the end of the sixth over. Tripathi & Gill’s 44 runs clinical partnership brought KKR back on the track of victory. However, when KKR’s innings started gaining momentum, DC hit them hard as Marcus Stoinis dismissed Rahul Tripathi for 19 runs. Captain Eoin Morgan & Sunil Narine as usual failed to deliver with the bat & got out for 0. As a result, KKR was reduced to just 74/4 in the 11th over itself.
KKR’s innings faced a downfall in the 13th over as their set opener Shubman Gill got out at 43 runs off Avesh Khans’ delivery, thereby limiting KKR to 82/5. Dinesh Karthik & Andre Russell joined in the middle & the duo put a valuable partnership of 27 runs. However, while trying to accelerate their run-scoring, Karthik lost his wicket to Patel in the 17th over. In the final two overs, Russell & Cummins managed to add more than 31 runs to the KKR scoreboard & helped their side to post a total of more than 150 runs mark.
