Peshawar Zalmi’s players Haider Ali & Umaid Asif have been suspended from tonight’s PSL final against Multan Sultans after both the cricketers admitted to the charges of violating safety protocols by meeting people from outside their bio-secure bubble & also failing to maintain the essential social distancing norms.
The incident took place on Wednesday & the decision was made on Thursday morning by the PSL COVID-19 management panel which comprises Barrister Salman Naseer (PCB, Chief Operating Officer) & Babar Hamid (Director-Commercial, & PSL 6 head).
“The two cricketers were found not to have interacted with any other squad members at any time after the incident & have been placed in room isolation”, stated PCB Official Release. Further, Haider Ali has also been withdrawn from the England & West Indies tours. Chairperson of the selectors Muhammad Wasim in consultation with Captain Babar Azam & head coach Misbah-Ul-Haq has named Sohaib Maqsood as Haider Ali’s replacement for the England & West Indies tours on which the Pakistan national team will play three ODIs & eight T20Is apart from two tests in Jamaica.
Sohaib has shown stellar performance in the ongoing PSL, in which he has scored 363 runs in 11 matches with an average of 40.33 & a strike rate of under 153. Sohaib Maqsood has represented Pakistan in 26 ODIs & 20 T20Is. His last T20I appearance was against New Zealand in Hamilton in January 2016.
Earlier on Tuesday, Riding on the back of Hazratullah Zazai’s blistering 66 runs knock along with Jonathan Wells 55 runs, Peshawar Zalmi reserved their spot in the final of the PSL 2021 against Multan Sultans which is slated to be played on 24th June 2021 in Abu Dhabi.
