Ravichandran Ashwin, Mithali Raj nominated for Khel Ratna Award, Shikhar Dhawan KL Rahul for Arjuna Award

The Indian Cricketers achieves a remarkable milestone in their cricketing career as some of them has been nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award & Arjuna Award category. The BCCI has recommended the names of Ravichandran Ashwin & Mithali Raj for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, while Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah for the Arjuna Award category.

Ashwin has scalped 413 wickets in 79 tests besides 150 & 42 wickets in ODIs & T20Is though currently, he doesn’t play for India in the limited over formats. Mithali Raj completed 22 years in International cricket last week & is the leading run-scorer for India in ODIs with more than 7000 runs under her belt.

Shikhar Dhawan who will captain the upcoming limited-overs series in Sri Lanka is a nominee for Arjuna Award. Dhawan has scored 5977 runs in 142 ODI besides 2315 & 1673 tests & T20 runs. “We had a detailed discussion and it was decided to send in the names of Ashwin and women’s Test and ODI skipper Mithali’s name for the Khel Ratna. We are recommending Dhawan again for the Arjuna while we will also suggest the names of Rahul and Bumrah,” a source told ANI.

The last date for submitting the applications for the National Sports Awards 2021 was June 21. However, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports had decided to extend the last date of submission of application for the National Sports Awards 2021. Nominations/Applications from the eligible sportspersons/coaches/entities/ universities were invited for the renowned award & they were to be emailed as per an Official Statement from the ministry.

Manika Batra, Rohit Sharma, Vinesh Phogat, Rani Rampal & Mariyappan Phangavelu were awarded the Khel Ratna Award last year & it was the first time that five athletes received the honor in the same year.
