Ravichandran Ashwin had scalped 12 wickets in the first three matches but had to miss the Final Test match in Brisbane due to an injury. Battling with severe back pain Ashwin had teamed up with hanuma Vihari for an astounding 62 runs partnership on the final day of the third test in Sydney to pull the match towards an unforgettable draw.
Washington Sundar made his Test Debut in the Gabba Test & hit a 62 runs knock to defend the lethal Australian bowling attack along with Shardul Thakur in a 123 run partnership in India’s first innings to bring their side back into game. He also picked up four wickets in the same clash which led India to win the test by three wickets & retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Ashwin & Sundar are also a part of the Indian team named for the first two tests against England in Chennai beginning on February 5. Several other players of the victorious Indian squad who returned on Thursday includes Tamil Nadu’s fast bowler T Natarajan who was given a grand reception when he arrived at Chinnappampatti village in Salem district.
Despite of the absence of Captain Virat Kohli after the first test & several players being injured, India made a remarkable comeback after the disastrous defeat in Adelaide where they scored their lowest ever test innings scores i.e. 36 runs to win the series by 2-1.
