An all-rounder stable performance by Mumbai Indians in yesterday’s match against KXIP has helped Mumbai Indians to register a stupendous win. Rohit Sharma’s 70 runs off 45 balls helped him to cross 5000 runs in IPL & a final onslaught by Kieron Pollard who scored fabulous 47 runs off 20 balls & Hardik who scored 30 runs off 11 balls helped Mumbai Indians to get back to winning by beating KXIP by a whopping 48 runs in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. 104 runs were scored in the remaining six overs by Mumbai Indians who were first sent in to bat by KXIP’s captain KL Rahul. These included a 25 run stint on 20th over which was bowled by Krishnappa Gowtham who was taken for four sixes, three by Kieron Pollard & one by Hardik Pandya. In the second last over Mohammed Shami was hit for four fours & Jimmy Neesham went for 57 in his four overs including 40 in his last two.
Consequently Mumbai Indians posted an above average target of 191 runs along with their all-round bowling attack together restricted KXIP to just 143/8. KXIP’s star players like KL Rahul & mayank Agarwal got dismissed very cheaply by Mumbai Indians skilled bowlers & within no time KXIP’s middle batting order got collapsed easily.
Karun Nair (0), Glenn Maxwell (11), James Neesham (7) and Sarfaraz Khan (7) all failed and even though Nicholas Pooran accelerated during his 44 off 27, he was dismissed by James Pattinson in the 14th over to mark the beginning of the end for Kings XI. After Pooran’s wicket, KXIP lost 5 wickets back to back on just 42 runs & Mumbai Indians attacked their opponents in the phase where they had accelerated their innings.
At the end of 16 overs, Mumbai Indians were 124/3 when Rohit was dismissed easily. However the KXIP’s lack of experience in death bowling was quite evident with Neesham & Gowtham’s leaking runs to their Opponents.
Sheldon Cottrell was the pick of the bowlers for KXP, returning 1/20 from four overs. Shami and Gowtham got a wicket each. For Mumbai Indians Pattinson, Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar got two wickets each while Krunal Pandya and Trent Boult got one wicket each. With this huge victory Mumbai Indians went on top of the points table by grabbing four points from four matches & KXIP got placed on 6th position with just two points in hand.
