CSK vs KKR: Yesterday’s clash between CSK & KKR was not less than a roller coaster ride for the fans. Cummins & Russell’s heroics with the bat couldn’t save KKR from an 18 runs defeat!
KKR was chasing a mammoth 221 runs target but failed in their efforts as they faced two run-outs in the final two overs which prevented them from chasing those match-saving 18 runs. Batting first CSK posted a competitive target of 220 runs riding on the back of unbeaten 95 runs knock from Faf Du Plessis followed with a well-composed 64 runs knock from none other than Ruturaj Gaikwad.
In response to CSK’s decent total, KKR had a bad start with their opener Shubman Gill getting dismissed on 0 off Deepak Chahar’s delivery whereas Nitish Rana also couldn’t do wonders for KKR, as he went back to the pavilion by scoring just 9 runs. It was Deepak Chahar who ran through KKR’s top order to hand over early breakthroughs to CSK.
Captain Eoin Morgan & Rahul Tripathi also couldn’t bring KKR on track. As Chahar dismissed Morgan for 7 runs & then easily removed Narine for 4 runs in the fifth over to leave KKR struggling at 31/4. Things improved for KKR thanks to Andre Russell who partnered with Dinesh Karthik to give some relief to their side. Andre Russell scored stunning 54 runs off 22 balls in an innings which comprised of six huge sixes & three boundaries. Russell & Karthik together scored 81 runs off 39 balls for the sixth wicket. It was their saviour knock that kept KKR’s hope alive in the massive chase.

However, KKR’s happiness couldn’t last for long as Sam Curran removed Russell in the 12th over even Ngidi took the wicket of Karthik in the 15th over. Then came Pat Cummins on board to save the submerging ship of KKR! Cummins though had a bad day with the ball he compensated with a gutsy 66 runs knock off 34 balls. He kept on smashing boundaries & was in no mood of stopping. He easily brought up 30 runs in the 16th over of Sam Curran.
KKR needed 28 runs in the last two overs but things again got changed in CSK’s favour. As the side suffered from two run-outs in the last two overs reducing KKR to 202 in the 19th over. However, Cummins remained unbeaten on 66 runs off 34 balls.
Gaikwad-Plessis 129 runs stand laid the foundation of CSK’s stunning Win!
For CSK, Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers who scalped 4 wickets for his team. After sent to bat first, CSK’s openers Gaikwad & Plessis laid the foundation of their win by adding 129 runs opening stand. Ruturaj who was struggling for few days with the bat found his lost spark in yesterday’s clash. The youngster smashed four sixes & six fours off Chakravarthy’s bowling to add 64 runs on CSK’s scoreboard.
Captain Dhoni who promoted himself up in the batting order played a quick-fire 17 runs knock off seven balls before he was dismissed in the 19th over by Russell. Jadeja scored a six off the last ball as CSK ended their innings at 220/3. For KKR, none of the bowlers was effective in front of CSK’s batsmen as Narine, Russell & Chakravarthy scalped a single wicket each.
