Sam Curran was “Surprised” when asked to Open the Batting for CSK against SRH!


CSK all-rounder Sam Curran has said that playing as an Opener Batsman against SRH came as a complete surprise to him but he also admitted that he enjoyed playing the role of Opening Batsman for his team.

His remark came just after CSK defeated SRH by 20 runs on Tuesday at the Dubai international Stadium. Warner led SRH failed to chase an average target of 147/8. For CSK Karn Sharma & Dwayne Bravo fetched two wickets each. After batting first CSK set a target of 167/6 in the assigned 20 overs. Watson was the top scorer for CSK as he played an outstanding knock of 42 runs. For this particular match against SRH, CSK decided to do little experiment with its opening batting order by sending Sam Curran to open the innings instead of Watson.

“Yeah it was a very good win. Obviously we needed a couple of wins to keep going in the tournament. I was totally surprised to get at top of the batting order but really enjoyed it, I got the team to a good start with a good win”, Curran told Dwayne Bravo in a video posted on “It was good to bat at the top of the order, we have struggled initially to get some momentum but it came right against SunRisers Hyderabad. I am just trying to contribute with both bat and ball,” he added.

In terms of bowling Curran was able to grab one wicket in three overs. He also got a crucial wicket of SRH captain David Warner. Curran along with Rayudu was able to fetch some runs for CSK after playing the knocks of 41 & 31 respectively. In the end Jadeja wrapped up CSK’s innings by scoring 25 runs off just 10 balls. For SRH, Sandeep Sharma emerged as the star bowler as he returned with figures of 2-19 from his four overs. For the match against SRH, CSK made a change in their lineup by bringing in Piyush Chawla in place of Jagadeesan. SRH is currently on fifth place in the points table while CSK is on sixth position.
