Kerala’s batsman Mohammed Azharuddeen played a stupendous knock on Wednesday against Mumbai team in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as he helped Kerala win their second match in the ongoing tournament.

Chasing the target of 197 runs the right handed opener batsman hit a century in just 37 balls against Mumbai’s bowling attack which comprises the likes of Dhawal Kulkarni, Tushar Deshpande and Shams Mulani as Kerala won the match with over four overs to spare. Azharuddeen stayed unbeaten at 137 runs off 54 deliveries as Kerala beat Mumbai team by eight wickets. It was the second fastest century in the history of India’s National T20 Century after Rishabh Pant’s 32 balls century scored in 2018.

Former india batsman Virender Sehwag was totally impressed by Azharuddeen’s ferocious innings. “Wah Azharudeen , behtareen!  To score like that against Mumbai was some effort. 137* of 54 and finishing the job on hand. Enjoyed this innings,” he tweeted.

It is the first century by Kerala team’s batsman in T20s & also the third joint-fastest century by an Indian in the shortest format. In his audacious knock, Azharuddeen hit 11 sixes & nine boundaries.

Earlier Kerala won the toss & opted to field first. Mumbai’s top three Aditya Tare, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Captain Suryakumar Yadav hit 42, 40 and 38 respectively but the middle order failed to deliver & glide the team towards victory. However a 13-ball 26 from Shivam Dube helped them finish at 196/7.

Coming into the chase, Azharuddeen along with solid support from Robin Uthappa stitched a spectacular partnership of 129 runs before Uthappa departed for 33 runs in the 10th over. Sanju Samson came in & stuck Mumbai Bowlers hitting a 12 ball 22 runs before being dismissed with just 7 runs needed to win. But the wicket was just a consolation for Mumbai as Azharuddeen finished the match off in style, hitting a six off Siddhesh Lad delivery to seal glorious victory for Kerala.
