Shikhar Dhawan’s quick-fire 92 runs guided Delhi Capitals to an Easy win over Punjab Kings
Riding on the back of Shikhar Dhawan’s gutsy 92 runs, Delhi Capitals snatched victory from the hands of Punjab Kings in the 11th match of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Mayank Agarwal’s stunning knock & a brilliant final over cameo by Shahrukh Khan has guided Punjab Kings to a Mammoth total of 196 runs.
Chasing a massive 195 runs target, Delhi Capitals look quite confident with the bat. Shikhar Dhawan’s quick-firing innings & Stoinis onslaught with the bat helped Delhi Capitals chase the target with 10 balls to spare. Dhawan’s six studded 92 runs knock off just 49 balls helped Delhi Capitals to be on the track of stunning victory right from the beginning of the match. However, Dhawan failed to register his century as he dispersed on 92 runs. After Dhawan’s dismissal, Stoinis cameo guided Delhi Capitals to a comfortable victory despite the removal of Delhi Capitals Captain Rishabh Pant in the 18th over.
Dhawan’s impressive 92 runs knock helped DC to chase the target within 20 overs!
Chasing a target of 196 runs, Delhi Capitals got off to a good start. As opener batsman, Prithvi Shaw & Shikhar Dhawan guided DC to spectacular 57 runs in the first five overs. However soon PBKS Star pacer Arshdeep Singh ended Shaw’s short batting spell at the crease. As Shaw departed after scoring just 32 runs off 17 balls right in the sixth over. Steve Smith who came to bat at number three failed to make a difference. Smith’s sluggish knock was ended soon when he tried to hit a maximum but got caught at the deep. But regular fall on wickets on the other end didn’t affect Dhawan’s stint with the bat.
Dhawan continued his impressive stint with the bat & hit Mohammed Shami’s slow delivery for a six. Shikhar Dhawan then smashed back to back three fours in the 14th over & was nearing his century. But soon in the 15th over he got out & walked backed to the pavilion on 92 runs. With Delhi Capitals still in need of 44 runs in five overs, Captain Rishabh Pant played a cautious knock. But soon Marcus Stoinis took on Punjab Kings bowlers thanks to two no-balls from Shami right in the 17th over.
Mayank & Rahul’s firing partnership guided PBKS to a massive total of 196 runs!
Earlier put to bat first Punjab Kings got off to a good start with Mayank Agarwal & KL Rahul smashing big shots right from the beginning of their batting stint. Mayank Agarwal hit his first half-century of the IPL 2021 in just 25 balls as PBKS got over 90 runs mark in just 10 overs. However, Delhi Capitals Meriwala provided Delhi Capitals with the major breakthrough by dismissing Mayank right in the 13th over ending their 122 runs partnership for the fall of the first wicket.
KL Rahul tried to continue power-hitting but Kagiso Rabada ended his spell by removing him right in the 16th over. Just six balls later Chris Gayle hit the ball in the air but failed to guide it for a six as Chris Woakes took his first wicket of the day.
Then came Deepak Hooda & Nicholas Pooran then whacked the ball before Avesh Khan ended the West-Indies batsmen knock in the second last over. In the final over Shahrukh Khan scored quick-fire 15 runs to guide Punjab Kings near to 200 runs total in their allotted 20 overs.
