Shreyas Iyer is out of the ODI series & is likely to miss the first half of the IPL as his left shoulder got dislocated. This incident happened in the 1st ODI during the eight over of England’s innings when Shreyas dived to save a shot by Jonny Bairstow off Shardul Thakur’s delivery & ended up dislocating his left shoulder.
The 26-year-old cricketer was in immense pain as he left the field clutching his shoulder. He will miss the rest of the ODI series & is unlikely that he will play the first part of the IPL, said a source within the BCCI.
On Tuesday, the BCCI had stated, “Shreyas Iyer has partially dislocated his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for scans”.
Shreyas Iyer is the captain of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals which will begin from April 9th. His presence in the upcoming season of IPL is also doubtful. It could take about six weeks to recover from shoulder dislocation & the duration can increase if surgery is required.
It is predicted that during Shreyas absence the Delhi Capitals captaincy could be handed to either Rishabh Pant, Steve Smith or senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
