Sri Lanka Cricket on Saturday congratulated the senior Sri Lanka team for displaying an excellent show on the field against India during the T20I series. Sri Lanka won the third T20I to clinch the three-match T20I series by a 2-1 score on Thursday. To recognize this gleaming victory against India & applaud the Sri Lankan squad’s hard work, SLC awarded a whopping sum of USD 1,00,000 to the national team.
“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket applauded the hard work of the players, coaches, & the support staff for registering the much-needed victory against India, which it believes will augur well for the national team going forward”, said SLC in an Official Statement.
“Hence in order to recognize this victory, the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to award a sum of USD 1,00,000 for the national team”, added the SLC.
Coming back to the third T20I, Wanindu Hasaranga’s four-wicket haul along with Dhananjaya de Silva’s unbeaten 23 runs knock helped Sri Lanka to beat India by seven wickets in the third & the final T20I. With this stunning win, Sri Lanka won the series by a 2-1 score.
Sri Lanka needed just 82 runs to win against the injury-hit Indian team in the third T20I & the hosts chased down the target comfortably within 15 overs. Chasing an easy 82 runs target hosts got off to a decent start as Rahul Chahar removed Avishka Fernando in the sixth over. It was a slow start from Sri Lanka but the hosts already had the edge over India as they needed just 82 runs to win the third T20I. Rahul Chahar scalped two more wickets by dismissing Minod Bhanuka & Sadeera Samarawickrama but couldn’t stop Sri Lanka from chasing the target.
Choosing to bat first, India got off to a poor start as India lost Captain Shikhar Dhawan right in the first over. Hasaranga starred with the ball by scalping four wickets to limit India to a below-par total of 81/8. After 15 overs, India’s score was 55/6 with Kuldeep & Chahar at the crease. India kept losing wickets at regular intervals & were eight wickets down for 63 runs before Kuldeep & Sakariya stitched an 18 runs stand & guided India to post a mediocre total of 81 runs in 20 overs.
