SMAT 2021 Final: The summit clash of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was no less than an enthralling thriller. Tamil Nadu needed five runs off the last ball & Shahrukh Khan did the honors by smashing a six off the last ball & guiding Tamil Nadu to win the gleaming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the third time in the history of the tournament. Chasing an average of 152 runs, Tamil Nadu got off to a firing start as Hari Nishanth & Jagadeeshan stitched a quick 29 runs stand for the first wicket. However, their partnership didn’t sustain for long as Nishanth 23 was sent back to the pavilion via a run-out in the fourth over. Sai Sudarshan then joined Jagadeeshan in the middle overs & the duo kept the scoreboard ticking at a cautious pace.
Karun Nair provided a crucial breakthrough to Karnataka as he removed Sudharsan for 9 runs by limiting Tamil Nadu to 51/2 in the eighth over. Then came Shahrukh Khan on the pitch & he soon brought things under control for Tamil Nadu. Shahrukh smashed 33 runs off 15 balls taking Tamil Nadu to a four-wicket win.
Earlier Abhinav Manohar & Praveen Dubey played crucial knocks of 46 & 33 as Karnataka posted 151/7 in the allotted twenty overs. Sent in to bat first, Karnataka got off to a poor start as the team lost its first three wickets with just 32 runs on board. None of its batsmen could create a mark on the crease as Rohan Kadam (0), Manish Pandey (13) & Karun Nair (18) were dismissed early from the crease.
Sharath BR & Manohar put up 54 runs for the fourth wicket to steady Karnataka’s innings & in the end, Dubey’s 33 runs quick cameo helped Karnataka to post 151/7 on board. For Tamil Nadu Sai Kishore scalped three wickets.
