Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting has confirmed that Steve Smith will bat at No 11 if he gets into the Playing XI in the IPL 2021. Overseas Players like Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada & Anrich Nortje are in good form. So Steve Smith has to fight for the one overseas spot in the DC squad.
“I think the truth that Smith has been released from the franchise he has been at for a long time will make Smith a bit hungry this year. So if he gets an opportunity of playing with us-I think he will be in the top three. If he gets an opportunity, I am sure that he will have a great year for us”, Ricky Ponting said.
Steve Smith had a disappointing IPL season last year & Ponting feels that he is “very keen” to get on the field & show what he has got for the Delhi Capitals.
“The other side of that is there is a big auction next year and if he happens to have a good IPL this year, then I am sure that his price is going to rise up for the coming season”, Ponting said. Delhi Capitals head Coach feels that the presence of Smith in the DC squad is enough for them considering the vast pool of knowledge Smith has about Cricket.
“It’s great to have him as a part of our squad. Even if doesn’t play it’s great to have someone like that around with his sort of knowledge on the game and the T20 game, will be great for our group. I can’t wait to work with him again,” Ponting added.
Earlier we have shared with you the news of Kagiso Rabada & Anrich Nortje’s arrival in Mumbai to join the DC squad. Delhi Capitals will start their IPL 2021 Campaign against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 10.
