India’s Women Opener Smriti Mandhana played an outstanding knock of 80 runs off 64 balls to help her beat South Africa Women by stupendous nine wickets in the second ODI to level the five match ODI series at 1-1.
Smriti Mandhana hit three sixes & 10 boundaries as India’s Women chased their 158 runs target in less than 3 overs. The left handed Opener batsman played some outstanding strokes & her brilliant knock caught the attention of Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu who took to twitter to heap praise on her.
“@mandhana_smriti what a delight to watch you play,” tweeted Taapsee Pannu, who is set to play Mandhana’s ODI captain Mithali Raj in her upcoming Bollywood biopic. After Mithali Raj won toss & opted to bowl first, veteran seamer Jhulan Goswami took four wickets as South Africa Women were wrapped up for 157 all out.
Mandhana got India to a strong start as she hit sixes for the first two deliveries which she faced to steady India’s innings. Despite of losing her opening Partner Jemimah Rodrigues in the fifth over, mandhana kept going at a brisk pace. Punam Raut at No.3 got off to slow start but Mandhana ensured that India didn’t come under pressure by performing brilliantly.
She brought up her fifty by hitting consecutive boundaries in the last two balls of the 20th over. Mandhana kept up her tempo as Raut picked up the pace by finishing with 62 runs off 89 balls. Smirti Mandhana brought up victory for India by hitting two consecutive boundaries as they finished at 160/1 in 28.4 overs. Mandhana was also named as the player of the match for her brilliant knock.
