“Team should win fixtures away from home”, says Coach Russell Domingo

Russell Domingo emphasized that need of winning matches outside home conditions

Bangladesh has won the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka with 2-1, but still the head Coach Russell Domingo feels that the side should perform & win the fixtures out of home conditions.

“The big challenge for our ODI team is to try & win fixtures away from the home conditions. They are a very good team in Bangladesh. I think we can get the confidence of winning matches away from home conditions by playing away from home. It will be surely a big thing for us”, ESPNcricinfo quoted Domino as saying.

“I think playing away from home, we need to win one or two big matches, Once you get confidence & belief that you can do it, that will put the team in a much better mental position”, Russell Domingo added.

Domingo feels that the total of 230 & 240 runs might be sufficient to defend in Dhaka but it won’t be enough for the hosts if they are playing out of home conditions. “Definitely when you are playing away from home, 230 or 240s are not going to help you win many matches. We should be able to challenge ourselves, play expansively to get to the score of 300 and 350. It is of paramount importance in the modern game”, Domingo said

Recently after the conclusion of the third ODI match, Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the final match of the series. According to ICC, Tamim has breached Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players & player support personnel which related to the “use of an audible obscenity during an International match”.

The incident occurred in the 10th over of Bangladesh’s innings during the third ODI on Friday. Tamim Iqbal used inappropriate language after an unsuccessful review of his caught-behind dismissal. The Captain has accepted the offense & has also accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC Match referee Neeyamur Rashid. Earlier Bangladesh has won the first two ODIs to clinch the three-match ODI series. However, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 97 runs in the third ODI to avoid a series whitewash.
