Legendary Batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday hails the “Competitive Spirit” of the India & the West Indies Legends teams in the Road Safety World Series T20.

Tendulkar led India Legends team made their way to the finals of the Road Safety World Series by defeating West Indies by 12 runs on Wednesday. 424 runs were scored in the match between India & West Indies Legends & praising both the teams’ efforts Tendulkar said that the competitive spirit both the teams’ players showed is commendable.

“More than the 424 runs scored in this match, I feel it was the competitive spirit with which the teams played today that stood out. Fantastic effort by all the 22 men,” Tendulkar tweeted. Chasing the target of 219 runs West Indies Legends were restricted to just 206 runs for 6 wickets down in the 20 overs by the India Legends. Needing 24 in 12 balls India’s pacers R Vinay Kumar & Irfan Pathan bowled brilliantly to restrict Windies at 206 & helping India to win.

With the support of Tendulkar’s half century & Yuvraj Singh’s unbeaten 49 runs from 20 balls which comprised of six sixes & a four helped India score 218 runs for three in 20 overs. Other than Tendulkar & Yuvraj’s swashbuckling knocks, Sehwag (35), Yusuf Pathan (37) & Mohammed Kaif (27) also contributed with the bat. India Legends started with the attacking mode with Sehwag hitting the first ball bowled by Spinner Suleiman Benn through the covers. There was no stopping for Sehwag who was in attacking mode while Tendulkar took his time to settle & play his game.

Sehwag & Tendulkar together stitched an outstanding half century partnership for the first wicket down as Sehwag gave a return catch to seamer Tino Best. Later Tendulkar scored another half century & he also stitched a valuable 53 runs partnership with Kaif before the latter was dismissed by Ryan Austin. On the way to his century Tendulkar got caught at deep by Kirk Edwards. Then came Yuvraj & Yusuf who successfully destroyed Windies bowling attack in the death overs by hitting some maximums.

Yuvraj smashed six sixes in the last two overs. In the 19th over Yuvraj hit leggie Mahendra Nagamootoo for four sixes & the next two sixes came in the last over of Suleiman Benn. Despite of hitting six sixes, Yuvraj was left stranded at 49 not out as India Legends comfortably scored 218 for 3 in 20 overs.
