Australia failed to break down India’s batting order which helped team India to keep the series on level at 1-1, going into the final test at the Gabba, Brisbane.
Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the heroes for India in the third test match while Australia captain Tim Paine had a poor outing which lead him to lose his temper multiple times apart from dropping three catches on Day 5 of the third test match. On the final day of the Sydney test Paine was picked up by the stump mic & launched verbal volleys at Ashwin after being unable to dismiss him.
On Tuesday Tim Paine called a press conference & apologized for his conduct at the SCG saying, “I’m human, I want to apologize for the mistakes that I made.”
“I’m someone who prides themselves on the way I lead this team and yesterday was a poor reflection,” Paine was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“My leadership wasn’t good enough, I let the pressure of the game get to me. It affected my mood and then from there affected my performance. I said to our players yesterday ‘I’ve had a really poor game as a leader’. I let our group down,” he added.
Tim Paine further said that he spoke to the Indian spinner after the conclusion of the fifth day’s game & told him, “I ended up looking the fool, didn’t I?”
“You open your mouth and then you drop a catch. We had a bit of a laugh about that,” he said.
Tim Paine was also fined 15% of his match fee for showing disagreement with an on-field umpire. Tim Paine was found guilty for breaching Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The ICC, in a press statement issued on Sunday, said that there was no need for a formal hearing as Tim Paine pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanctions.
The batting stand between Hanuma Vihari & Ashwin helped team India to keep the Australian bowlers at bay & take the match towards a draw. Vihari could barely run after suffering a hamstring injury & that took away the chance of team India chasing down the total & register a victory in the third test match against Australia. However the duo batted with grit & determination & were successful in pulling the match into a draw. The fourth and final Test is scheduled to be played at the Gabba, starting on January 15.
