Trent Boult by scalping four wickets laid the foundation for New Zealand’s victory against Bangladesh in the first ODI. Boult also donated 500 dollars to his hometown club Otumoetai Cadets on Saturday.
Trent Boult scalped four wickets as New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by massive eight wickets in the opening match. New Zealand took 21.2 overs to register victory after the host’s bowlers bundled up Bangladesh for 131 in the first ODI. Trent Boult won the Player of the Match Award after scalping 4/27 in the opening match & donated his award money to his home club.
“Trent Boult is the @ANZ_NZ Player of the Match with his 4-27! Boult donated his $500 club donation care of ANZ to his home club Otumoetai Cadets #NZvBAN” the BLACKCAPS tweeted.
Chasing a target of 132 runs Martin Guptill & Henry Nicholls together stitched a 54 runs partnership for the first wicket within six overs to destroy Bangladesh’s bowling. Taskin Ahmed provided the visitors with the first breakthrough when he removed Guptill.
Nicholas & Devon Conway stitched a partnership of 65 runs as New Zealand reached triple scores. But Hasan Mahmud ended Conway’s knock. However, New Zealand had plenty of overs to reach the target & New Zealand sealed victory in the match in the 22nd over & took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Sent to bat first, Bangladesh was restricted to just 131 runs off 41.5 overs on the back of an all-round bowling performance.
Bangladesh had a poor start as they lost Captain Tamim Iqbal in the 5th over. The Bangladesh Captain was off to a great start as he hit a six on the third ball of the match. It was Trent Boult who trapped the captain in front of stumps.
Since then Bangladesh batsmen struggled to score as New Zealand seamers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals from both ends. Only Mahmudullah & Mushfiqur Rahim managed to past the 200 runs mark.
