Virat Kohli & Co starts training at Southampton ahead of the WTC Final

Virat Kohli-led Indian team is preparing for the WTC Final against New Zealand in Southampton starting from June 18. The team has completed their quarantine period at Southampton & has started their outdoor training session.

On Wednesday Virat Kohli took to Instagram to share a lovely picture with his teammates Cheteshwar Pujara & Shubman Gill. In the picture, the trio was seen standing on the grounds of Southampton. “The sun brings out smiles,” Virat Kohli captioned the picture. Star spinner Rashid Khan also commented on Virat’s post with three fire emojis. The post got hit on Instagram, as it crossed 350,000 likes within minutes of sharing it.

Last week, Virat Kohli’s wife & famous Bollywood actress, Anushka Sharma shared a picture from the Ageas Bowl stadium in Southampton. Fans got awestruck with Anushka’s bright smile in the picture which has a beautiful backdrop of the Ageas Bowl stadium. By sharing the adorable picture on Instagram, Anushka wrote, “Don’t bring work home isn’t going to be applicable to Virat for some time. #QuarantineAtTheStadium”.

The WTC final was originally scheduled to be played at Lord’s but the venue was shifted keeping in mind the need for a bio-bubble. The Ageas Bowl stadium in Southampton has a hotel attached to it, making it easier to maintain a bubble. Thus the WTC final was shifted to Southampton.

The Player’s activity will be allowed in a gradually increasing manner after every round of negative testing. Moving from exercise in isolation to small group & then large squad activity including intra-squad practice match while remaining within the bio-bubble environment.

Currently, New Zealand’s team is playing two-match test series against England. The first test against England was ended in a draw while the second test will start on Thursday in Birmingham. After the completion of the bilateral test series, the Black Caps will move from the ECB bio-bubble into the WTC bio-bubble on June 15. And then they will be subjected to regular testing prior to & post-arrival in Southampton.

After the conclusion of the WTC final, the Indian team will come into a face-off with England in a five-match Test series starting from August 4.
