VVS Laxman recalls Anil Kumble’s outstanding bowling during Antigua Test!

Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble bowled with a heavily broken jaw during the Antigua Test in 2002 & claimed the wicket of Brian Lara. Anil Kumble is the highest wicket-taking Indian bowler in both test matches & ODI series & even he is the former head coach of the Indian team.

He had received applause from his former India teammate VVS Laxman on Monday. Former India test specialist batsman VVS Laxman recalled all the memories of the 2002 test match which was between India & the West Indies in Antigua during which Anil Kumble bowled & impressed despite having a broken jaw. Sharing Anil Kumble’s picture from the match VVS Laxman wrote on Instagram, “A giant in every sense, he rose above and beyond the call of duty. The grit, drive, and bravery displayed through this picture are quintessential Anil Kumble. Never giving up, no matter what was a trait which made Anil the cricketer he became.”

Former Indian Spinner Harbhajan Singh also agreed with Laxman & called Kumble “India’s biggest match-winner ever”, in the comments section. Anil Kumble thanked VVS Laxman for all the praises & further added that Laxman is “no less” & he always brought “positivity in the team” with calmness.

Thanks, Lax. You are no less. Enjoyed every bit of our partnership in the middle and your calm influence and positivity in the team. I was fortunate to have played in an era with you and other great teammates. Stay safe!” Kumble replied.

Kumble is also playing the role of acting Chairman of the International Cricket Council Cricket Committee(ICC) that recommended a ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball amid the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.
