CSK have many senior & experienced players in its squad & most of CSK’s players are into their 30’s. Players like MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, FAF du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Imran Tahir, Dwayne Bravo etc all are into their mid to late 30’s & most of them have retired from International Cricket.
Though age is a minuscule factor in T20 cricket, CSK defended the age barrier & won the IPL title in 2018. Watson has been a star performer for the CSK since past two seasons & the retired all-rounder recently took to social media & shared a video of himself & his teammate Dhoni who recently retired from International cricket smashing the ball with full power in the nets ahead of the IPL 2020.
“At the ripe old age of 39 …. Just two old guys doing what we love” is how Watson captioned the video. Watson has score 3,575 runs in the IPL with hitting four centuries. In previous season of IPL, Watson scored 555 runs by batting in the top order.
However Watson’s experience of playing in the PSL in the UAE could be very useful for CSK as many of their players have little experience of playing in the UAE. Dhoni who retired from International Cricket on August 15 will now have only IPL to show his cricketing skills on field.
Dhoni has flourished for CSK in the past two seasons averaging 83.20 and 75.83 in 2019 and 2018 respectively & CSK will play their first match against defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
