Experienced batter Anna Lanning & 17 year old young sensation Rhys Mckenna & Georgia Gall all have signed with Melbourne Stars for the WBBL 2021.

Anna Lanning re-signed with team green for a second consecutive season after switching from Renegades ahead of the WBBL six. Gall was a member of the Melbourne stars team last season & she along with McKenna were the members of Cricket Victoria’s under 19 emerging performance squad in 2020.

Lanning said that she was pleased to re-sign with the Melbourne stars ahead of the seventh edition of the WBBL. “ I have enjoyed my time at the stars, & I am excited to continue my WBBL journey with the club. We do exceptionally well in developing young players, so I am excited to work along both Georgia, Rhys & the other younger players to help them progress through the ranks & live out their cricketing dreams”, Melbourne stars quoted Lanning as saying.

Anna Lanning has played 4 tests, 80 ODIs & 104 T20Is & has scored 185 runs in tests, 3693 in ODIs & 2788 runs in T20Is. Lanning has also displayed spectacular show with the ball by scalping 1 wicket in 7 innings in ODIs & 4 wickets in 3 innings in T20Is.

In Women’s Big Bash League, Anna Lanning has played a total of 38 matches where she has amassed 371 runs at a strike rate of 87.29 & at an average of 13.25.

Even Melbourne Stars WBBL Head Coach Jarrad Loughman said that he was pleased with the inclusion of both youth as well as experienced players in their squad.

“We saw what Anna could do last year and we are very happy that she has recommitted with us. She is an explosive player with a lot of experience and the whole group is looking forward to seeing her in action again this season,” Loughman said.

“We had Georgia involved in the squad last season which proved to be great experience for her and we’re glad to offer Rhys the same opportunity this year. With the support of our experienced coaching group, we know they will develop and push for selection throughout the season”, Loughman added
