England’s pacer Jofra Archer has successfully undergone an elbow operation to address his long-standing elbow injury. After the operation, Archer said that he would not be rushing his comeback & will eye-full recovery as he wants to play the T20 World Cup & Ashes.
ECB on Wednesday has confirmed that Jofra Archer had undergone surgery to solve his troubling elbow injury. He will now commence an intensive rehabilitation period working closely with the ECB & Sussex Medical teams.
Speaking about his elbow operation & recovery, Archer said, “One thing I am determined about the post elbow operation is not to rush my comeback because now my main focus is to play for England in the T20 World Cup & ashes later this year. Those two series are my prime target. If I come back before then & manage to play in the home series against India then fine, so be it, If I don’t, I am quite prepared to sit out the summer”, Archer wrote in his column for Daily Mail as reported by ESPNcricinfo
“The way I am looking at things is that I would prefer to miss a few weeks of a year so that I have a few more years in my career. I just want to get this injury sorted once & for all & that’s why I am looking that far ahead or at dates for a return to action. Because if I don’t get this right, I won’t play any cricket. I am not going to make a comeback before I am fully fit so I will take my time & do what is best for me & my life”, added Archer.
With the view of making a comeback in England home tests, Archer has been featured in England County Cricket match for Sussex against Kent earlier this month. But after suffering from pain & discomfort in his elbow he opted out of bowling in the second innings of the match. The ECB & Sussex then decided to go ahead with surgery on his right elbow to find a solution to his elbow injury.
Archer’s injury on his right elbow forced him to miss two test matches against India & also the IPL 2021. He had also missed matches in South Africa at the start of 2020. Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the two-match test series against New Zealand because of his elbow injury & probably will also miss England’s home test series against India starting from August 4.
