Zaheer Abbas in critical condition after being diagnosed with Pneumonia

Former Pakistani cricketing legend Zaheer Abbas has been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) at a private hospital in London. The senior cricketer’s health deteriorated after he was diagnosed with Pneumonia upon his arrival in London from Dubai. Abbas reached London on June 16 and has been unwell since then.

Abbas was taken hospitalized on the following day and has been closely monitored after being diagnosed with Pneumonia. Abbas had earlier tested positive for Covid-19 in the first week of June following which his departure to London was delayed. After feeling well and leaving for London, his health took a turn and worsened as he was admitted to the hospital and put on dialysis.

Zaheer Abbas has been one of the finest cricketers for Pakistan. He made his debut in 1969 and has successfully amassed 5062 runs in 72 test matches. Abbas has also been magnificent in the ODI format as he scored 2572 runs in 62 matches. Abbas was undisputedly one of the most stylish and fabulous batsmen of his era and also earned the tag of ‘Asian Bradman’.

The prolific batsman remains the only Asian cricketer to score over 100 first-class centuries. Abbas averaged 47 in ODI’s and had an unmatched strike rate of 85. Towards the end of his successful career, Abbas captained Pakistan in 14 test matches. He truly had a fruitful cricketing career for Pakistan.

After the end of his athletic career, Abbas served as a match referee and also served as the President of ICC. He was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside Jacques Kallis and Lisa Sthalekar in 2020.

Zaheer Abbas is currently placed on dialysis in an ICU. His situation is closely monitored and the treatment is underway. We pray for his speedy recovery and hope to see him well soon.
