Riding on the back of Hazratullah Zazai’s blistering 66 runs knock along with Jonathan Wells 55 runs, Peshawar Zalmi reserved their spot in the final of the PSL 2021 against Multan Sultans which is slated to be played on 24th June 2021 in Abu Dhabi.
Chasing a decent target of 174 runs set by Islamabad United, Zazai & Wells heroics with the bat helped the Zalmi’s to chase the target within 16.5 overs. Sent in to bat first in the crucial second Eliminator clash between Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi, The United were able to bring up a decent total of 174 runs for the Zalmi’s to chase. Colin Munro starred with the bat for United’s by scoring 44 runs but still Islamabad United was reeling at 110 for 8 wickets down at one point. Islamabad United’s star batsmen Usman Khwaja failed to make a difference, as he got run-out right in the first over of their innings. Others like Muhammad Akhlaq, Brandon King, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, and Faheem Ashraf failed to get going with the bat with things becoming difficult for Islamabad United.
Then came Hasan Ali who steadied Islamabad’s submerging ship by smashing 45 runs off 16 balls to help the United’s to post a decent target of 174 runs. Ali & Mohammad Wasim all contributed to the total by smashing 61 runs off 24 balls, ensuring that Islamabad United’s bowlers had enough runs on board to defend.
For Peshawar Zalmi, the firing knocks by Zazai & Wells didn’t let Peshawar Zalmi feel the pressure in the chase. On the fourth ball of the third over by Hasan Ali, Zazai was dropped by the wicket-keeper, which provided a lifeline to Zalmi’s in the chase of mammoth 174 runs. At the end of the powerplay, Zalmi had 48 runs on the board with both Zazai & Wells looked well set on the crease.
Zazai resorted to attacking form of batting in the 11th over against Wasim Jr to score 14 runs in that particular over. Shadab Khan smashed three sixes in the 12th over to crush Islamabad United’s chances to qualify for the PSL 2021 final. Zazai fell for 66 runs in the chase but Wells & Shoaib Malik took the side to home with much ease.
With this scintillating win over Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi sealed their spot in the final of PSL 2021 against Multan Sultans. Peshawar Zalmi & Multan Sultans will lock horns with each other in the much anticipated PSL 2021 final on 24th June in Abu Dhabi
