Hazratullah Zazai’s stupendous 77 runs off 38 balls helped Peshawar Zalmi to reserve their place in the second eliminator match by sealing a narrow five wickets win over Karachi Kings. Babar Azam’s half-century guided Karachi Kings to a decent total of 175 runs for 7 wickets down. But Zazai kept Zalmi’s hopes of reaching the PSL 6 final alive by completing the chase on the second last ball of the innings.
Kamran Akmal got out for 13 runs while Imam-Ul-Haq was able to bring up just 11 runs off 17. Then came Haratullah Zazai who steaded Peshawar Zalmi’s submerging ship by striking three fours & a maximum right in the first two overs, and ensured that Peshawar Zalmi brought up 41 runs in four overs by losing just one wicket.
Wickets were falling on the other hand, but it doesn’t shake Zazai’s confidence. After the quick fall of two wickets, Zazai found the much-needed support from Shoaib Malik. Zazai’s on-slaught with the bat helped Peshawar Zalmi’s to bring 92 runs on board in just 10 overs. However, Zazai’s zealous stint with the bat came to an end in the 13th over off Thisara Perera’s delivery. He already did his job of guiding Peshawar Zalmi over 100 runs mark before getting bowled. Then came Malik & Khalid Usman who took ahead Peshawar Zalmi’s innings. Sherfane Rutherford’s late cameo of 17 runs acted as a savior for Zalmi’s who managed to chase the target within 19 overs.
Earlier, sending to bat first, Sharjeel Khan & Babar Azam gave Karachi Kings a brisk start. But a perfect bowling spell by Zalmi’s resulted in a quick fall of wickets for Karachi Kings right at the start of the match. Kings lost three wickets in just five overs & were reduced to 73 runs for 3 in just 11.2 overs. However, Sharjeel Khan led the fightback by scoring 37 off 18 balls followed by Imad Wasim’s 16 runs off 9 balls to bring 173 runs on board. Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, and Umaid Asif picked up two wickets each to mount pressure on Peshawar Zalmi. But all their efforts went in vain, as Peshawar Zalmi chased the target within 19 overs & knocked out Karachi Kings from the PSL 6 final race.
Brief scores: Karachi Kings 175/7 in 20 overs (Babar Azam 53; Mohammad Irfan 2-21) lost to Peshawar Zalmi 176/5 in 19.5 overs (Hazratullah Zazai 77) by five wickets.
