NZ vs IRE Highlights, T20 WC 2022: New Zealand beats Ireland by 35 runs to become first Semi-finalists

NZ vs IRE Highlights: Clinical Black Caps have once again proved why they are regarded as one of the best teams in World Cricket. They displayed an all-round show in today’s NZ vs IRE fixture & registered a massive 35-run win to become the first semi-finalist in the T20 World Cup 2022. New Zealand has ended their group stage campaign at the top spot on the Points Table with three wins from five matches & a total of seven points in their kitty. With a high run rate, New Zealand would be the top entrant into the semi-finals even if England & Australia win their final fixtures.

Williamson-Allen’s blistering knocks laid the foundation of Black Caps Glorious Win

The match folded with Fin Allen & Conway providing their team with a blistering start stitching a rewarding 52-run stand for the first wicket. Fin Allen adopted an aggressive approach by scoring 32 runs off 18 balls with five fours & one six. However, Joshua Little provided Ireland with their first breakthrough by dismissing Allen in the sixth over, reducing Ireland to 52-1. Conway then joined hands with Williamson to carry forward New Zealand’s innings from there. The duo smashed Ireland’s bowlers across the park to keep their scoreboard ticking. Though Conway fell for 28 runs off 33 balls in the 12th over, Williamson didn’t stop his carnage with the bat. He further joined hands with Glenn Phillips to march Black Caps towards a massive total. But their stand couldn’t flourish for long as Delany sent Phillips back to the hut in the 14th over for 17 runs off 9 balls.

Williamson on the other hand didn’t lose hope, he further stitched a gleaming 60-run stand for the fourth wicket with Daryl Mitchell to help Black Caps get an upper hand over Ireland. The duo made a mockery of Irish bowlers by smashing them for fours & sixes. Soon, Ireland got the breakthrough that they were waiting for a long when Joshua removed Williamson in the 19th over for 61 runs off 35 balls. He played a valorous knock decorated with five fours & three sixes. Joshua breathed fire as after Williamson he caught Neeshan & Santner in the same 19th over to register his maiden T20I hat-trick. In the end, New Zealand finished their innings at 185-6 with Daryll Mitchell & Southee staying unbeaten. Mitchell stayed unbeaten at 31 runs off 21 balls with two fours. For Ireland, the pick of the bowlers was Joshua Little who scalped 3 wickets against 22 runs. Delany too supported him by returning with figures of 2-30.

NZ vs IRE: Irish’s Middle & Lower Order failed to capitalize on the good start

In reply, Ireland started well with the openers Any Balbirnie & Paul Stirling weaving a 68-run stand for the first wicket. They smashed boundaries at regular intervals & did fine running between wickets to give Ireland a good start. Stirling scored 37 runs off 27 balls with three fours & one six while Captain Balbirnie too supported him at the other end by amassing 30 runs off 25 balls by hitting three massive sixes. However, the moment it looked like they will do wonders for the team, Santner struck to dismiss Balbirnie in the 9th over. Following him, Stirling (37) & Tector (2) too were dismissed reducing Ireland to 73-3 in 10.3 overs.

Wickets kept falling for Ireland just like a pack of cards as Gareth Delany (10), Tucker (13), and Curtis Campher (7) all failed to hit the straps reducing Ireland to 120-6 in 16.3 overs. Santner & Sodhi weaved a lethal spin web around to break the Irish batter’s backbone. Dockrell tried to provide some resistance by scoring 23 runs off 15 balls with three fours. However, couldn’t do much as wickets were falling at the other end. As a result, Ireland’s innings was wrapped for 150-9 in 20 overs registering a massive 35 runs win. For New Zealand, the pick of the bowlers were Lockie Ferguson (3-22), Tim Southee (2-29), Mitchell Santner (2-26), and Ish Sodhi (2-31).
