NZC appoints Dean Brownlie as Women’s Team Batting Coach

New Zealand Cricket has appointed former New Zealand Men’s International Dean Brownlie as Batting Coach for New Zealand Women’s Team. The other noteworthy signing is spin bowling coach Craig Howard who will join Brownlie in the White Ferns Coaching staff.

Brownlie has featured in 14 Tests & 21 white ball fixtures for the New Zealand National team. He also served as Men’s team Interim Coach in march 2022 when the Netherlands toured New Zealand for the home series. Recently he served as the Network Coach at the Northern Districts team & also toured Australia along with New Zealand’s Coaching staff for T20 World Cup 2022.

“I have been lucky to experience cricket all across the globe in different playing conditions & I want to share my knowledge of the game with prolific players in the White Ferns team to bolster their batting attack & take them to next level,” Dean Brownlie said in an official statement released by New Zealand Cricket.

Craig Howard will groom the spinners for a greater challenge in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

On the other hand, Craig Howard who has been signed as spin bowling coach for the White Ferns team will work closely with spinners such as Eden Carson, Fran Jonas & Amelia Kerr. For the unversed, Howard has been involved with the White ferns team on a tour-by-tour basis in the past & will be with the team for their home series against Bangladesh. He will work with the White Ferns team until the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023 in South Africa. Previously he had served as a spin bowling consultant with South Australia, Cricket Australia & Adelaide Strikers where he had worked with world-class players like Georgia Wareham, Nathan Lyon & Sophie Molineux.

Talking about his signing with White Ferns Howard said, “World Cup is standing next door & we will work on the team’s strategy in different formats & phases & preparing them to perform their role of restricting the opposition from scoring runs & scalping wickets at regular intervals.”

New Zealand is all set to host Bangladesh Women for three T20Is & three ODis beginning on December 2. They will then march into the T20 World Cup 2023 where they will play their first fixture against World Champions Australia on February 17.
