Pakistan had the upper hand over England at the end of Day 1 at the third Test match in Karachi. Winning the toss at the National Stadium, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam made a satisfactory decision to bat first on a hard and dusty pitch. Backing on a resilient performance of the middle order, Pakistan put up a decent total of 304 runs in the first innings.
Pakistan lost an early wicket in the form of Abdullah Shafique (8). However, Shan Masood (30) stood strong at the other end to play a fierce knock but was soon dismissed as Pakistan struggled for 46/2. Skipper Babar Azam (78) and Azhar Ali (45) then came to the rescue and recorded a vital stand of 71 runs for the third wicket.

Skipper Babar Azam accelerated his innings and continued to build crucial partnerships alongside Saud Shakeel (23) and Mohammed Rizwan (19). Agha Salman (56) smashed a solid knock, in the end, to help Pakistan edge past the 300-run mark. He put up a helpful 48-run stand for the eighth wicket.
For England, Jack Leach was the most contemplating bowler who aced the bowling attack with a stunning figure of 4/140. Debutant Rehan Ahmed was also commanding as he scaled 2 wickets for 89 runs. Robinson (1/31), Wood (1/33), and Root (1/7) chipped in a wicket apiece.
England kicked off their first innings on a disappointing note as they lost opening batsman Zak Crawley for a duck. England stood on 7/1 at Stumps where Ben Duckett (4)* and Ollie Pope (3)* remained unbeaten. For Pakistan, Abrar Ahmed claimed the lone wicket.
