PAK vs ENG 4th T20I: Pakistan wins by three runs, level the series by 2-2

ENG vs PAK 4th T20I: Pakistan outplayed England in another thrilling encounter in the ongoing seven-match T-20I series to level the series by 2-2. England fell short of just 3 runs as the hosts regained command at their home turf with a splendid all-round show.

Winning the toss at the National Stadium in Karachi, England skipper Moeen Ali just created another blunder by electing to bowl first.

Rizwan-Babar’s 97-run stand laid the foundation for Pakistan’s Win

Batting first, Pakistan recorded a decent total of 166/4 in their first innings. Spectacular performance by ace batsmen Mohammed Rizwan (88) and Babar Azam (36) put Pakistan off to a solid start as the two added 97 runs for the first wicket. Rizwan as usual was the aggressor in their stand by smashing 88 runs off 67 balls. Babar too displayed a decent batting show by scoring 36 off 28 balls.

After the skipper’s dismissal, Shan Masood (21 off 19 balls) stood strong alongside Rizwan to add another resilient partnership of 52 runs for the second wicket. In the end, a scintillating cameo from Asif Ali’s 13 in 3 balls helped Pakistan to cruise past the 160-mark.

For England, frontline paceman Reece Topley (2/37) led the bowling attack whereas Dawson (1/32) and Willey (1/31) chipped in a wicket apiece.

England’s Tailenders poor batting show cost them the fixture

Chasing a modest total of 167 runs, England was off to a disappointing start as openers Phil Salt (8), Alex Hales (5) along with Will Jacks (0) failed to make an impression with the bat. As a result after two overs, Pakistan’s score read 14-3.

Thereafter, Ben Duckett (33 off 24 balls) and Harry Brooks (34 off 29 balls) came to their rescue and built a crucial partnership of 43 runs for the fourth wicket. Skipper Moeen Ali came in next and retained the momentum by scoring 29 runs and adding 49 runs for the fifth wicket alongside Brooks. Moen Ali played a beautiful knock of 29 runs off 20 balls before getting dismissed in the 14th over.

In the end, a thunderous knock of 34 runs by Liam Dawson took England near a jaw-dropping victory but his efforts went in vain as the tailenders failed to capitalize on his contribution. As a result, England was bowled out for 163 runs, losing the match by only 3 runs.

Pakistan’s sensational bowling attack was led by Mohammed Nawaz (3/35) and Haris Rauf (3/32) who shattered the defenses of the English batsmen. Muhammad Hasnain provided vital support with his figures of 2/40 whereas Mohammed Wasim scaled a wicket for 30 runs in his four overs. The fifth T-20I of the series will take place on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium.
