PAK vs WI 2022: Pakistan relocates West Indies ODIs from Rawalpindi to Multan

PAK vs WI 2022: What comes as a major development straight from Pakistan is the relocation of their home ODI series against the West Indies from Rawalpindi to Multan. The decision has been taken considering the political uncertainty in Islamabad which is the country’s Capital adjacent to Rawalpindi. However, the fixtures & schedules of the series remain unchanged.

The three-match ODI series starting on 8th June was originally slated to be played in Rawalpindi, but the PCB had kept Multan as a backup option as former Prime Minister Imran khan is planning to conduct protest rallies in Islamabad over the coming days. The original protest rally took place on May 25 but there still remains a possibility of more such rallies in the coming days.

Multan remained the only feasible venue for the West Indies ODIs as Lahore & Karachi pitches were being relaid & the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar undergoing renovation work. Multan is situated in Southern Punjab & is among one of the hottest cities in Pakistan with temperatures expected to go above the 40s during the match days.

PCB has never hosted major series whether domestic or International during this time of the year due to extreme summer heat. PCB has always hosted all elite competitions including domestic during the winter & spring months between September & April to avoid heat waves causing inconvenience to the players. Mostly during summers, the PCB has held its training camps in  Abbottabad which is located in the hilly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and experiences relatively milder weather.

The three-match ODI series which is a part of the World Cup Super League will be played on June 8, 10 & 12 in Multan. The matches will be played at 4 pm in the afternoon when the temperature is less scorching. Pakistan will be conducting a training camp before the ODIs in Lahore from June 1-4 after which the squad will move to Multan for the ODI series. Meanwhile, the West Indies team will arrive in Islamabad on June 6 and will then travel to Multan on a charter flight for the ODI series. There will be no bio-bubble for the series.
